Step 1: Determine if you require Development (Planning) Approval
All Class 2-9 buildings require Development (Planning) Approval prior to submitting a Building Permit application.
Certified building permit applications must be submitted complete with all prior approvals issued (including planning approval).

Step 2: Apply for a building permit
To apply for a commercial building permit, you must submit a Certified (BA1) Building Permit Application. This must be lodged together with a BA3 Certificate of Design Compliance, which is completed and signed by a registered private building surveyor.

Step 3: Assessment
Building permit applications either certified or uncertified are usually assessed and approved within 10 business days.
Building permits are sent to the builder via post.
Step 4: Submit a Notice of Completion
Under the Building Act 2011, the builder must notify the Shire that the work is completed by submitting a BA7 Notice of Completion Form.
