Horses and Livestock

Keeping horses, sheep and other livestock must comply with State and local requirements.

In many cases the keeping of stock requires planning approval to ensure that natural features are protected and the land is appropriately managed.

The Shire of Mundaring's Guidelines for Keeping Stock provides advice of the following:

  • Do I need approval to keep stock?
  • Why do I need approval?
  • Where can stock be kept?
  • Where can’t stock be kept?
  • How many animals can I keep?
  • What is a Stock Management Plan?

For the purpose of these guidelines, “stock” includes a horse, cow, sheep, goat, deer, mule, alpaca, camel, donkey or any other similar animal or beast of burden.
