(For young people aged 12-17 years)

This interactive workshop walks participants through the history of the modern murder mystery, from The Murders in the Rue Morgue to A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. It also shows them how to write their own, from creating a memorable detective to planting clues (and red herrings)!

It is recommended that participants bring their own stationery (writing paper or notebook) to the workshop.

Kate Emery is the author of three young adult novels, The Not So Chosen One (2022), My Family and Other Suspects (2024) and A Murder is Going Down (2025). Her books have won the WA Premier’s Book Award, the Australian Book Industry Award and been shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s Literary Award.

Bookings are essential for this free event via Humanitix.

This event is strictly for young people aged 12 to 17 years. Please do not book children of other ages as places are limited.  You do not need to book tickets for adults accompanying children.
