Shire of Mundaring turned up the summer fun these school holidays, splashing into the season with vibrant Summer Splash themed playgroups at both Child and Parent Centre sites, where laughter, learning and water play took centre stage for local families.

Across the sessions, the centres buzzed with energy as 75 adults and 86 children jumped into a mix of playful water activities designed to support early learning and development.

From splashing and pouring to shared play, each activity helped build sensory awareness, fine and gross motor skills, and social confidence in a relaxed and welcoming space.

The playgroups also created a chance for staff to reconnect with familiar faces and warmly welcome new families ahead of the new school year. These early catch ups help build trust, strengthen relationships, and support families and children as they prepare for the year ahead.

Sun safety was woven into the fun, with a strong focus on helping families build everyday SunSmart habits. Parents and carers learned about the five Ss of sun safety. Slip on protective clothing, Slop on sunscreen, Slap on a hat, Seek shade, and Slide on sunglasses.

The clear message that UV is the danger was reinforced throughout the sessions, helping families feel confident making sun safe choices.

Shire President Paige McNeil said the Summer Splash playgroups captured what community programs should be about.

“These sessions bring learning, play and connection together in a way that feels natural and fun for families,” she said.

“It is great to see our community enjoying quality time together while picking up simple sun safety tips that protect children now and into the future.”

Shire of Mundaring remains committed to delivering engaging activities that support families, build strong community connections, and encourage safe and healthy lifestyles across the shire.
