More than 40 local young people took part in a series of engaging and energetic workshops hosted by Shire of Mundaring during the October school holidays.
The program encouraged young people aged 12–17 to connect with nature, focus on wellbeing, and build new skills in fun and supportive settings.
On Thursday 2 October, eight young people joined the Nearer to Nature Walking Wild Workshop. In partnership with the Bibbulmun Track Foundation, the group explored the scenic trails of the Perth Hills, identifying native plants and wildlife while learning practical hiking and camping skills.
At the ROAR Workshop on Tuesday 7 October, over 20 participants gathered at Mundaring Arena for a full day of fitness and wellbeing activities. The session began with Healthy Gut – Healthy Mind, a nutrition and mental health discussion, followed by a challenging “Wristband Triathlon” including 150 squats, 100 metres of burpees, and a 3-kilometre run.
The holidays concluded with the Soul Shine Creatives Stillness & Expression Workshop on Thursday 9 October. This half-day retreat offered participants the chance to slow down, practice mindfulness, and express themselves through yoga, meditation, and creative artmaking.
Shire President Paige McNeil said the school holiday workshops reflect the Shire’s commitment to supporting youth wellbeing and community connection.
“These activities give young people space to challenge themselves, explore our natural environment and build confidence in a positive, social setting,” President McNeil said.
“It’s wonderful to see so many young people getting involved and making the most of the opportunities available right here in Shire of Mundaring.”
