With a career spanning continents, industries and communities, Mandy Skeates brings a wealth of experience and heart to her new role as Manager Community, Culture and Visitor Experience at the Shire of Mundaring.
Originally from Yorkshire, Mandy began her career in recruitment, running an agency in London before moving to Kent. Reluctant at first, Mandy followed her husband Barry’s ’s dream to live in Australia with a two-year trial that turned into 22 years - and counting. “I just fell in love with the lifestyle,” she says.
After retraining as a migration agent, Mandy found herself drawn to community-focused work, supporting those looking to work in Australia. Her passion for people and working in the community deepened through work with Riding for the Disabled WA and later in local government, where she managed a diverse portfolio at the City of Kalamunda - spanning economic development, tourism, cultural strategy, libraries, events, and property services.
A highlight of her time at Kalamunda was being part of the team to roll out the award-winning Experience Perth Hills partnership tourism brand, as well as major projects like the restoration of a heritage locomotive and the development of a business concierge service to support local enterprise.
“My passion has always been to foster local collaboration across business, community organisations and government and non-government organisations,” she said.
“I really love connecting with people and building trust where amazing outcomes can come from working together through local government”.
A Mt Helena local, Mandy is excited to work with residents, businesses and community groups to lift the profile of the region and create meaningful outcomes across tourism, community and arts and culture spaces.
CEO Jason Whiteaker said the team is excited to have her on board.
“Mandy is a highly regarded leader with a strong track record in tourism and culture focused outcomes. We’re thrilled to welcome her to the team and look forward to the impact she’ll have across the community, culture and visitor experience portfolio.”
