Shire of Mundaring is progressing plans to revitalise its town centre, with Council endorsing the first stage of the Mundaring Cultural Precinct Improvement Plan. This includes the detailed design and construction of a new amphitheatre and events space within the Mundaring Community Sculpture Park, replacing the existing facility, providing a more welcoming and versatile space for our community to come together, celebrate and enjoy local events and activities.
The plan outlines a long-term vision for a vibrant and inclusive town centre with staged upgrades to public amenities, open spaces and community facilities.
Stage 1a marks the first major step in bringing that vision to life, with $1.4 million allocated from the Civic Facilities Reserve to deliver the new event space. The funding will be provided over two years, with $700,000 committed in the first year.
Shire President Paige McNeil said the project will create an inviting, flexible space for community connection and celebration.
“This amphitheatre will become a key feature in our town centre, a place where people can gather for live music, markets, performances and events,” she said.
“It will complement the natural beauty and heritage of our much loved Sculpture Park, while providing modern infrastructure to support a wide range of community activities and events.”
The concept design was informed by community and stakeholder consultation with refinements made to reflect local priorities such as maintaining the park’s natural feel, improving pedestrian access, and integrating lighting and power for events.
Future stages of the Improvement Plan include upgraded end-of-trip facilities, a new amenities block, and broader streetscape enhancements timed to align with the development of the adjacent Mundaring Cultural Hub.
Detailed design for Stage 1a will now begin, with further community engagement to support delivery and minimise impacts during construction. For more information, visit Engage Mundaring Shire of Mundaring | Mundaring Town Centre Revitalisation
