Shire of Mundaring has been recognised as a best practice leader in financial management by the Office of the Auditor General (OAG), following the release of its 2023-24 Local Government Financial Audit Results.

Tabled in State Parliament on Thursday 24 April, the report assessed the financial reporting performance of all WA local governments. The Shire was one of just 20 local governments statewide to be named a "best practice entity", a commendation reserved for those meeting the highest standards across a range of rigorous criteria.

This independent recognition was based on factors such as:

  • Timely submission of CEO-certified financial reports
  • High-quality financial statements and supporting notes
  • Comprehensive and accurate working papers
  • Effective management and resolution of accounting matters
  • Availability and responsiveness of key staff during audits
  • Minimal and low-risk management letter findings
  • Receiving a clear audit opinion with no significant concerns raised.

Shire CEO Jason Whiteaker said the acknowledgment reflects the Shire’s longstanding commitment to sound financial stewardship.

"The recognition by the OAG is a testament to the skill, professionalism and attention to detail of our finance team led by Finance Manager Stan Kocian," he said.

Shire President Paige McNeil said Council is proud of the Shire’s strong track record of audit excellence, giving its community confidence that public funds are being managed transparently and responsibly.

“We extend our congratulations to Jason Whiteaker and the team on this outstanding recognition,” she said.

The Shire’s consistent performance builds on its reputation for financial accountability, supporting the delivery of quality services and infrastructure for the community. The full OAG report is available at: Local Government 2023-24 – Financial Audit Results - Office of the Auditor General
