Extreme or Catastrophic Fire Danger Ratings
Please be advised that the Shire will close access to Lake Leschenaultia if the Lower West Inland area's Fire Danger rating is Extreme or Catastrophic.
Should a bushfire take hold in or near the Lake Leschenaultia, it would be uncontrollable in conditions that trigger an Extreme or Catastrophic Fire Danger.
As patrons are spread over a large area in the park it is difficult or impossible to notify all patrons of the need for quick evacuation which could occur with a fast moving bushfire.
The lake only has limited egress along Rosedale Road, which would make it dangerous to evacuate a large number of all patrons of the park quickly.
National Parks are also closed on these days of these Fire Danger Ratings.
Lake Leschenaultia will remain closed until the Fire Danger rating is below EXTREME.
Updates will be provided through the Shire's Facebook site and this website www.mundaring.wa.gov.au.
Whilst the Shire apologises for any inconvenience, it is committed to being proactive in ensuring the safety of its community, staff and visitors to the area.
