• Explore tropes and elements of the Gothic genre and how to apply these to an Australian setting.
• Harness location, atmosphere, and cultural context to craft stories that are distinctly Australian yet universally chilling.
• Put everything together with guided brainstorming and writing activities, with an opportunity to share.

About the Facilitator: Karleah Olson is a Perth-based writer, and has recently completed her PhD at Edith Cowan University, where she studied Australian Coastal Gothic Literature. Her debut novel, A Wreck of Seabirds, was shortlisted for the 2023 Fogarty Literary Award, the 2025 CBCA Book of the Year Award, and the Western Australian Premier's Book Awards. A Wreck of Seabirds is a work of YA fiction inspired by the gothic genre and the West Australian coastal landscape.
