Shire of Mundaring recently welcomed Lennard Sabin to the role of Manager Community Safety and Emergency Management, following the retirement of long-serving manager Adrian Dyson.

This key leadership role is responsible for building and maintaining the Shire’s capacity to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from emergency events such as bushfires, storms and floods. In addition to leading operational responses, the role also plays a vital part in proactive risk mitigation – working with the community and partner agencies to identify hazards, reduce vulnerabilities and strengthen local preparedness. This approach aligns with the Shire’s Council Plan, which prioritises sustainable environments and resilient communities.

Lennard brings extensive national and international experience in emergency management, crisis leadership and risk management to the role. Prior to joining the Shire, he held a senior risk management position at Fortescue and previously served as Director of Quadrant Resilience Partners, where he led complex emergency and resilience projects across government and industry sectors in Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. Lennard also has a 28-year background in fire and emergency services, including senior command and national operations roles with Fire and Emergency New Zealand.

Shire CEO Jason Whiteaker said Lennard’s experience would be a significant asset to the organisation and local community.

“We are very pleased to welcome Lennard to the Shire,” he said. “His strong leadership in emergency management and risk, along with his collaborative approach and international perspective, will support our ongoing efforts to build a safer and more resilient community,"he said.

Lennard said he was looking forward to working with the Shire and its partners to support emergency preparedness and response across the region.

“I’m excited to step into a role that aligns so closely with my passion and experience,” he said.

“The opportunity to work in local government and contribute directly to community safety is incredibly rewarding. I look forward to working alongside a highly experienced team and partnering with local bushfire brigades, agencies and residents to enhance resilience and readiness throughout the Shire.”
