A brand-new signature food and wine event is coming to the Perth Hills, with Council unanimously endorsing $50,000 in funding to support the inaugural Slow Food Festival Mundaring – Food, Wine and Spirits 2026.
Set to take place on Sunday 18 October 2026, the festival marks the first time the Slow Food celebration will be held in Mundaring, following its previous success in the Swan Valley. The new Hills‑based event will shine a spotlight on the region’s wineries, distilleries, growers and artisanal food producers, with a strong emphasis on local sourcing and sustainable food systems.
The festival will feature a diverse program including artisan markets, Noongar-led cultural experiences, bushfood education, food and sustainability workshops, live music, community art installations, storytelling projects and inclusive family-friendly activities.
Shire President Paige McNeil said the event represents a major opportunity to elevate the profile of the Perth Hills Mundaring region.
“This festival will showcase the very best of our local producers while celebrating the rich cultural heritage, creativity and natural beauty that define the Hills,” President McNeil said.
“By prioritising local businesses, suppliers and service providers, the event will deliver targeted economic benefits and help strengthen our regional identity.”
Aligned with global Slow Food principles of Good, Clean and Fair, the festival will promote ethical, sustainable and community‑minded food practices. It is also expected to attract local, intrastate and interstate visitors, encouraging extended stays and increased tourism spending throughout the region.
President McNeil said the event’s collaborative approach will help build a more connected and vibrant community.
“Events like this bring people together, create shared experiences and highlight the unique character of our community,” she said.
“We are proud to support initiatives that foster partnerships between cultural organisations, local businesses and community groups, while laying the foundations for a high‑quality annual event with long‑term growth potential.”
More information about the Slow Food Festival Mundaring – Food, Wine and Spirits 2026 will be announced by event organisers closer to the date.
