Works on the Elsie Austin changerooms upgrade at Mount Helena have reached a major milestone, with construction now moving into the stage where the new buildings begin to take form.

Early demolition works and changes to brickwork and flooring are now complete. The project has progressed into the structural phase, marking a visible step forward for the long-awaited upgrade.

The builder, AE Hoskins, has confirmed structural steel works are on track to be completed in the coming weeks. This will be followed by new brickwork, concrete works and roofing for both the changerooms and the new storage area.

Once the buildings are closed in, internal works will begin to deliver modern, accessible and inclusive changerooms designed to support players, officials and volunteers well into the future.

The $1.5 million upgrade will provide improved amenities, better storage, and fit-for-purpose spaces to support women and girls, junior teams, senior clubs and the Starkick all-abilities program.

Shire President Paige McNeil said it was exciting to see the project moving from groundwork into visible construction.

“This upgrade has been shaped by our local clubs and volunteers, and it’s great to see it really taking form on site,” President McNeil said.

“The new changerooms will be modern, accessible and practical, and will support participation across our community for many years to come.”

The project is funded through a partnership between Shire of Mundaring and the State Government, with support from the Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Fund and the PlayOn WA initiative.

PlayOn WA is an exciting initiative to deliver 2,030 community infrastructure items across WA by 2030.

The Elsie Austin changerooms upgrade is a key priority in the Council Plan 2024–2034, which focuses on growing participation in sport and providing welcoming, well-maintained community facilities.

Regular updates will continue as construction progresses.
