The brand-new cricket training nets at Parkerville Oval are officially open and already bringing fresh energy to the oval. The upgrade delivers stronger playing surfaces, improved safety and a modern design built to handle heavy use from both junior and senior players throughout the season.

The new structure replaces the ageing nets that were no longer meeting the needs of local players, giving the community a training space that finally matches the strength and growth of cricket in the Perth Hills.

Shire President Paige McNeil said it was a milestone welcomed by local clubs and families.

“These new cricket nets will support the Perth Hills cricket teams and are a great addition to Parky Oval. We are proud to deliver facilities that support local sport and bring people together.”

“The Shire acknowledges the support of the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport through the CSRFF funding program, and WA Cricket for its support through the Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund Program.”

The upgrade gives players a training space that reflects the strong cricket culture in the area and provides a reliable base for club development, junior participation and community use across the year.

Manager Recreation Services David Clear said the quality of the new training space will have real benefits for clubs.

“The new nets are important for the Hills Junior Cricket Club to ensure that the facilities allow the best quality cricket training environment possible. We are fortunate to have Jadon Chapman, Supervisor of Parks Infrastructure, who managed the project through to its successful completion.”

Local club member and junior cricket coach Miles Martin said the new nets were already generating excitement among young players.

“I’d just like to say thanks to the Shire of Mundaring for delivering the project for these brand-new fantastic cricket nets for our girls and boys playing cricket in the hills. It’s great for the community and the kids just can't wait to get on and use them and get stuck into the season.”
