Primary school students from across the shire can now see their artwork flying high in the Mundaring town centre as part of the 2025 Environmental Art Project.

The long-running initiative, delivered by Mundaring Arts Centre in partnership with Shire of Mundaring, City of Swan, local schools and environment groups, has supported youth arts and environmental education for more than 25 years.

This year’s theme invited students to explore “Land for Wildlife” and share creative ideas for restoring and protecting local ecosystems. Close to 800 entries were received from 18 schools, each reflecting the enthusiasm young people have for caring for the environment. Sixteen artworks have been selected to feature on banners throughout the town centre.

The banners were officially launched Wednesday 19 November at Mundaring Arts Centre, with winning students invited to attend and receive certificates.

Shire President Paige McNeil said the project is a powerful celebration of creativity, community and care for our environment.

“Shire of Mundaring is proud to support the Mundaring Arts Centre in its leadership enabling young people to express their ideas about how we protect and care for our environment through art. This project has been inspiring local students for more than two decades and continues to showcase our young talent and their commitment to environmental responsibility.

“Thank you to every student who submitted an artwork this year and thank you to our local schools and teachers for supporting this project. The quality of entries was exceptional, and I was genuinely impressed by the creativity, colour and storytelling in each piece.”

“I encourage everyone to head to the Rose Garden at the Mundaring Village Shopping Centre where the selected banners are brightening the streets of Mundaring.”

Entries were submitted by schools across the region including Mount Helena Primary School, Mundaring Primary School, Parkerville Primary School, Darlington Primary School, Swan View Primary School, John Walliston Primary School, Chidlow Primary School, Glen Forrest Primary School, Silver Tree Steiner School, Treetops Montessori School, Gidgegannup Primary School, Middle Swan Primary School, Caversham Valley Primary School, Emmaus Christian College, Guildford Grammar Primary School, Moorditj Noongar Primary School, and homeschool students.
