Shire of Mundaring Council has endorsed its 2024–25 Annual Report, marking a year of strong delivery focused on supporting people, protecting what makes the Perth Hills special, and investing in the places our community use every day.

At its heart, the Annual Report tells the story of how the Shire works for its community. It reflects thousands of everyday interactions, services and projects that help residents feel supported, connected and safe.

Shire President Paige McNeil said the report captures a year the Shire can be genuinely proud of.

“This Annual Report shows what can be achieved when Council, staff, volunteers and our community work together,” President McNeil said.

“It reflects the care, effort and commitment that goes into delivering services and projects that people rely on, often quietly, but consistently, throughout the year.”

Over the past financial year, the Shire invested directly in community connection and wellbeing. Local groups were supported through more than $103,000 in community funding, helping bring events, programs and initiatives to life across the Shire. Libraries continued to serve as welcoming community hubs, hosting nearly 2,000 programs and events and welcoming more than 110,000 visits from residents of all ages.

Facilities across the Shire were well used, from community halls and sporting venues to the Hub of the Hills, reflecting a community that is active, engaged and connected. The Shire also proudly welcomed 122 new Australian citizens, celebrating the diversity and shared future of the local community.

Keeping the community safe remained a core priority. Extensive bushfire mitigation works were delivered across priority areas, alongside inspections, preparedness activities and new emergency water infrastructure. These efforts highlight the Shire’s focus on protecting homes, families and the natural environment, and helping the community feel prepared and supported in a bushfire-prone landscape.

Environmental stewardship continued to guide decision-making, with strong participation in sustainability initiatives. The successful rollout of the new FOGO service exceeded expectations, helping divert organic waste from landfill and supporting more sustainable living. Thousands of free native seedlings were provided to residents, schools and community groups, supporting revegetation and the health of local bushland.

The report also highlights significant investment in the places that shape daily life in the Shire. Roads, footpaths, parks and community facilities were maintained and improved, ensuring they remain safe, accessible and fit for purpose. Major upgrades were delivered across community facilities, and a landmark $15 million Federal Government grant was secured to deliver the Mundaring Cultural Hub, a project that will benefit the community for generations to come.

President McNeil said the Annual Report is an important way for the Shire to report back to its community.

“This report is about transparency and accountability, but it is also about recognising the people behind the work,” she said.

“It acknowledges our staff, volunteers and partners, and it shows our community how their Shire is working every day to support a strong, connected and sustainable future.”
