Shire of Mundaring officially welcomed 58 new Australian citizens from 18 countries during a Citizenship Ceremony held at Mundaring Arena on Wednesday 20 May, 2026.
The ceremony celebrated people from across the world choosing to call Australia, and the Perth Hills, home. Countries represented included China, India, Poland, the United States of America, Denmark, Iran, South Africa, Venezuela, Egypt, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, France, New Zealand, Thailand, Germany, the Philippines and the United Kingdom.
The event brought together family, friends, dignitaries and Council Members to recognise this important milestone for the new citizens.
Shire President Paige McNeil presided over the ceremony and welcomed the new citizens on behalf of the community.
“Citizenship ceremonies are always incredibly special occasions for our community,” President McNeil said.
“It was wonderful to welcome 58 new Australian citizens to the Shire of Mundaring and celebrate the many cultures, stories and experiences that help shape our community.”
“The Shire of Mundaring is a connected and welcoming place, and we are proud to see people from all over the world choosing to build their lives here in the Perth Hills.”
“We look forward to seeing our newest citizens become part of community life and contribute to the future of our Shire.”
The ceremony included an Acknowledgement of Country performed by Di Ryder OAM, recognising the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land.
Anthony Spagnolo MLC attended the ceremony and delivered the Minister’s message on behalf of the Australian Government.
Other dignitaries in attendance included Steve Catania MLA and Honorary Freeman Max Williams OAM.
Council Members attending the ceremony included Cr Ben Heptinstall, Cr Matt Woods and Cr Dave Grills.
Shire of Mundaring congratulates all 58 new citizens and warmly welcomes them as they begin this next chapter in the Heart of the Hills.
