Notice regarding RMS data breach affecting Lake Leschenaultia bookings

Shire of Mundaring is aware of a recent cyber security incident involving RMS, the third-party booking system used for Lake Leschenaultia accommodation bookings. RMS has advised that personal information associated with some bookings may have been accessed as part of the incident. This is a third-party data breach involving RMS and not a breach of Shire of Mundaring systems. There is currently no indication that any Shire systems have been compromised.

Some Lake Leschenaultia guests have reported receiving suspicious emails, SMS messages and WhatsApp messages relating to upcoming bookings and requesting payment information. These messages may contain genuine booking details, making them appear legitimate.

The Shire responded promptly after becoming aware of the issue and contacted potentially affected guests following enquiries about suspicious communications relating to upcoming bookings. Payment card details are not believed to be affected, as payment information is stored and processed through a separate provider.

What should I do?

If you receive a message relating to a Lake Leschenaultia booking:

  • Do not click on any links or provide payment information.
  • Treat any unexpected requests for payment or personal information with caution.
  • Contact the Lake Leschenaultia team directly if you are unsure whether a message is genuine.
  • If you have already provided payment or credit card details, contact your financial institution immediately.

Importantly, existing bookings remain valid and no action is required unless you have received a suspicious message.

For further information and guidance:

The Shire will continue to monitor information provided by RMS and provide further updates if required.
