Why This Project Matters
The Shire of Mundaring is delivering two complementary improvement projects along Roland Road and Richardson Road to enhance road conditions, pedestrian safety and accessibility within the Parkerville area.
The first project funded by the Metropolitan Regional Road Group Project (MRRG) will resurface a section of Roland Road between McDowell Loop and Hawkestone Road, improving the condition, safety and longevity of the existing road surface. As Roland Road provides access to a number of surrounding streets, the benefits of these upgrades will extend beyond the immediate work area.
The second project will deliver a new footpath, drainage improvements and median islands near the Roland Road and Richardson Road area. These works will improve pedestrian connectivity, accessibility and safety while also addressing local drainage requirements.
Together, these projects will:
- Improve the condition and longevity of Roland Road.
- Enhance safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
- Provide new pedestrian connections and safer crossing opportunities.
- Improve accessibility for school students, families and people using mobility aids.
- Upgrade drainage infrastructure to better support the local road network.
- Support residents who rely on Roland Road as a key access route within the community.
What’s Planned
The Roland Road Improvement Projects comprise two separate infrastructure projects that will be delivered within different sections of Roland Road and Richardson Road.
Overlay Works-McDowell Loop towards Toodyay Road
The Shire of Mundaring has successfully secured funding through the Metropolitan Regional Road Group (MRRG) program to undertake road improvements on Roland Road. As part of these works, a section of Roland Road from McDowell Loop heading towards Toodyay Road and ending at Hawkestone Road will be resurfaced to improve the condition, safety and longevity of the existing road surface
The works include:
- Application of a new asphalt overlay.
- Road surface rehabilitation and renewal.
- Temporary traffic management to maintain safe vehicle movements during construction.
- Reinstatement of road markings where required.
These works will improve ride quality for motorists and help extend the life of this section of Roland Road.
Roland Road and Richardson Road- Footpath, Drainage and Median Island Works
A separate project near the Roland Road and Richardson Road area will deliver new pedestrian infrastructure and associated drainage improvements to enhance accessibility and safety.
The works include:
- Construction of approximately 135 metres of new concrete footpath.
- Installation of new kerbing and drainage infrastructure.
- Construction of median islands to improve pedestrian safety.
- New pram ramps and connections to existing footpaths.
- Verge reinstatement and site restoration following construction.
These improvements will provide safer and more accessible pedestrian connections while also addressing drainage requirements within the project area.
Together, these projects will improve both the road network and pedestrian environment, delivering benefits for residents, visitors and the broader Parkerville community.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why are there two separate projects?
The Shire has secured funding for road resurfacing works while also progressing a separate project to improve pedestrian safety, drainage and accessibility. Combining both projects under one project page allows the community to stay informed about all planned works within the area.
How will I access my property, school or other local destinations during the works?
Temporary traffic management, including reduced speeds, traffic control and detours where required, will be in place during construction. While some delays may occur, access to local streets, schools, businesses and properties will remain available. Any significant changes to traffic conditions will be communicated to the community and any affected residents ahead of the works.
How long will the resurfacing works take?
The resurfacing works are expected to take approximately four work shifts to complete, subject to weather and contractor availability.
Will there be traffic disruptions?
Temporary traffic management will be in place during construction. Road users may experience short delays while works are being undertaken.
Will trees or vegetation be removed?
Some vegetation management may be required to facilitate the footpath and drainage works. The Shire will seek to minimise impacts and retain vegetation wherever practical
When will the footpath works begin?
The footpath, drainage and median island works are currently anticipated to commence following completion of detailed planning and scheduling, with construction expected in late 2026 or early 2027.
