Protecting the memorial trees will:

• Safeguard living memorials dedicated to local veterans.
• Reduce soil compaction and protect the trees' structural root zones.
• Preserve Chidlow's heritage, identity and local character.
• Maintain the amenity of Memorial Avenue as an important public space.
• Support commemorative activities and community use.
• Complement Chidlow's broader heritage and tourism priorities.

Preliminary site investigations and measurements have been completed with support from the Shire's arborist.

This work confirmed that a barrier can be installed while:

• Maintaining a minimum 3.5 metre clearance from the sealed road edge.
• Avoiding encroachment into the trees' structural root zones.
• Preserving access and functionality of the road reserve.

Several barrier options will be developed and presented to the community for consideration and feedback.

Potential options may include:

• Rock Barrier: A natural rock barrier designed to discourage vehicle access while complementing the landscape character of Memorial Avenue. This option is considered achievable within the current project scope.
• Bollards: A bollard treatment that provides clear delineation and protection of the trees. Should this option be preferred by the community, funding opportunities would need to be considered*
