Shire of Mundaring is proud to support a 24-hour community swim at Bilgoman Swimming Pool later this month.
Hosted by local charity ROAR Inc, the event will take place from Saturday 28 to Sunday 29 March in Darlington and aims to raise funds for youth mental health programs.
Participants from Hillside CrossFit, Emma, Di and Connie, will take on the challenge of swimming continuously for 24 hours. Each swimmer will complete 20-minute rotations every hour across the full duration of the event.
The challenge builds on last year’s effort, where swimmers braved severe weather conditions and raised $12,590. This funded two school programs and supported 13 young people through after-school initiatives.
This year, the team is aiming to raise $15,900, enough to fund three school intervention programs supporting around 60 young people in the Shire.
Community members are encouraged to attend, show their support, and get involved. Spectator entry is free, with opportunities to swim alongside participants, take part in fitness challenges, and enjoy food and activities throughout the day.
Shire President Paige McNeil said the event highlights the strength of local partnerships and the impact of community-led initiatives.
“Our community continues to come together to support initiatives that make a real difference for young people,” President McNeil said.
“This event shows the positive impact of connection, physical activity and community in supporting wellbeing.”
“We are so pleased to support ROAR Inc., Hillside CrossFit and thank everyone involved for their efforts. We encourage our community to get behind this fundraiser which will ultimately change the lives of our local young people.”
ROAR Inc Founder Kate Kendrick said the organisation’s work focuses on building resilience and positive mindset in young people.
“Our young people practice Acts of Kindness and learn to think with positivity and optimism, challenging existing belief systems and spreading happiness to those in their sphere,” she said.
“So, by extension, helping ROAR Inc ultimately helps the Shire of Mundaring thrive.”
“This is the power of community, and this is how we make the world better.”
ROAR Inc is a local charity focused on empowering young people through physical activity and mindset development, delivering both in-school and after-school programs across the region.
The Shire is supporting the event through sponsorship and by providing access to Bilgoman Swimming Pool for participants and spectators.
