A couple of weeks ago, I promised we'd keep the community updated as we worked through options for this year's hard waste collection service.
I'm pleased to let residents know that we've now secured a contractor and can confirm that hard waste collections will go ahead across the Shire during the 2026/27 financial year.
Under the arrangement we've been able to secure, collections will take place in two stages:
Stage 1 – October and November 2026
5 October to 25 October 2026
- Chidlow
- Bailup
- Beechina
- Gorrie
- The Lakes
- Wooroloo
26 October to 23 November 2026
- Swan View
- Midvale
- Hovea
- Greenmount
- Darlington
- Bellevue
- Boya
- Helena Valley
Stage 2 – Commencing May/June 2027
- All remaining Shire suburbs
We will continue to keep the community informed and confirm dates once arrangements are finalised.
I know many residents have been waiting for certainty about what was happening, and I'm pleased we can now provide that.
When I last updated the community, I said we were focused on finding a solution and keeping residents informed along the way. That's exactly what we've been working on.
This staged approach means every household across the Shire will receive a hard waste collection service this financial year.
The timing reflects the collection schedule we've been able to secure through the contractor we've now engaged. Most importantly, we've secured a way forward that allows us to deliver the service across the whole Shire.
One of our key priorities throughout this process has been making sure residents receive the service funded through this year's budget, and I'm pleased we've been able to achieve that outcome.
The additional Community Recycling Centre passes previously announced will remain available and can continue to be used throughout the year.
I know this issue has caused frustration and uncertainty in the community. That's why it was important that we kept working on a solution and continued providing updates as progress was made. I'm pleased we can now give residents some clarity and confidence about what happens next.
As CEO, I'm committed to keeping our community informed and being open about the challenges we face. Just as importantly, I'm committed to finding practical solutions when those challenges arise.
Our commitment to delivering quality services for our community hasn't changed, and we'll continue working hard to provide the services and support residents expect from their local government.
