Council backs brighter future for Parkerville Oval

Exciting news for the Hills community, with Council formally supporting the Parkerville Oval lighting upgrade and committing $446,065 to deliver the project.

The decision aligns with the Shire’s Council Plan and its focus on delivering practical projects that strengthen local sport and community life.

The upgrade will see new night lighting installed at Parkerville Oval. This means football and cricket teams will be able to train and play games at night, creating more flexibility during busy seasons.

Participation in local sport across the Shire of Mundaring continues to grow. Improved lighting will help meet community demand for enhanced facilities and allow more teams to use the grounds safely and effectively.

The Shire also acknowledges the generous support of a private investor who has contributed to enhancing the lighting outcome. This contribution has helped lift the standard of the project and deliver greater long-term benefit to the sporting community.

The project follows the successful lighting upgrade at Brown Park in Swan View, which has been well received by players, volunteers and families.

Shire President Paige McNeil said the decision reflects strong community advocacy and Council’s commitment to investing in local priorities.

“Our football and cricket clubs have been strong advocates for better lighting at Parkerville Oval, and Council has listened,” President McNeil said.

“We know participation in sport is growing across our Shire, and our community expects facilities that keep pace with that growth.

“By committing $446,065 to this upgrade, we are delivering on the projects outlined in our Council Plan and supporting the volunteers, families and young people who make our local clubs so special.”

Parkerville Demons Junior Football Club President Taryn Shinnick said the upgrade will make a meaningful difference to the club and its members.

“This is incredibly exciting for our players, volunteers and supporters. Being able to train and play under quality lights opens up new possibilities for our club.

“It will help us manage our growing numbers, create more opportunities for juniors, and strengthen our presence in the Hills.

“We’re grateful for the Shire’s support and can’t wait to see Parkerville Oval lit up and ready for night cricket.”

Further information, including timing of works and installation updates, will be shared as the project progresses.

This investment demonstrates how the Shire is building a stronger future for our community by delivering facilities that reflect local demand and community pride.
