Council supports 40th anniversary Lake Leschenaultia swim

The Shire of Mundaring has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting vibrant community events, with Council unanimously endorsing $10,000 in funding for the 40th Anniversary Lake Leschenaultia Open Water Swim at Tuesday night's Ordinary Council Meeting.

The funding, provided through the Shire's Arts, Culture and Events Funding Program, will support the delivery of the milestone event on Sunday, 8 November 2026. The swim, organised by the Maida Vale Swimming Club, has been a much-loved tradition at Lake Leschenaultia for four decades and continues to attract swimmers, spectators and families from across Western Australia.

Set against the stunning backdrop of one of the Perth Hills' most popular destinations, the event showcases the unique recreational opportunities available at Lake Leschenaultia while bringing visitors into the region to experience its natural beauty.

Shire President Paige McNeil said the anniversary event highlights the important role community events play in bringing people together and celebrating local places.

"For 40 years, this event has encouraged people to get active, challenge themselves and experience everything that makes Lake Leschenaultia such a special place," she said.

"Lake Leschenaultia is one of the jewels of the Perth Hills, and we're proud to support events that invite people to enjoy our natural environment while creating lasting memories with family and friends."

President McNeil said the Shire's Arts, Culture and Events Funding Program helps community organisations deliver events that enrich local life and showcase the region to new audiences.

"This funding is about investing in experiences that strengthen community connection, support local tourism and celebrate the unique character of our Hills communities," she said.

"The 40th anniversary swim is a fantastic example of an event that has stood the test of time thanks to the dedication of organisers, volunteers and participants. We look forward to welcoming swimmers and visitors to Lake Leschenaultia in November."

The Lake Leschenaultia Open Water Swim will be held on Sunday, 8 November 2026.
