Why This Project Matters
The upgrade of the Great Eastern Highway and Seaborne Street intersection is a key infrastructure project for the Parkerville area. This busy junction serves local residents, commuters, and emergency services travelling along Great Eastern Highway.
Improving this intersection will:
- Improve traffic flow and reduce congestion
- Support the growing Parkerville and Mundaring community
- Provide safer access for emergency services
What’s Planned
The project includes several key infrastructure improvements:
- Intersection upgrade works at Great Eastern Highway and Seaborne Street
- Land acquisition of a small portion of land in Parkerville
- Service relocations to accommodate the new intersection design
- Some tree clearing on the western side of Seaborne Street
- Revised drainage design to minimise vegetation clearing impact
Main Roads Western Australia has revised the drainage design specifically to reduce the amount of tree clearing required. Environmental assessments are being conducted, and a Clearing Assessment Report will be published for public comment.

Community Engagement
The Shire recognises the importance of keeping the community informed about this project. Main Roads Western Australia and the Shire of Mundaring are committed to engaging with affected residents and stakeholders throughout all phases of the project.
Letter drops were distributed to affected residents throughout May 2025, and an online submission period was opened during May and closed in early June 2025, providing the community with an opportunity to review the proposal and provide feedback.
The Shire is pleased to advise that the project has recently received approval from the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER), allowing works to proceed. With Telstra relocation works expected to commence in the coming month, the project is continuing to progress toward construction.
Native vegetation clearing has been reduced to the extent practicable, with all cleared areas required for road safety improvement works and associated activities. Unfortunately, on this occasion, there are no opportunities for revegetation or landscaping within the project area.
Updates will continue to be provided through the Shire website and other communication channels as the project progresses.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will there be tree clearing?
Yes, some tree clearing will be required on the western side of Seaborne Street. Main Roads has revised the drainage design to minimise this impact. A Clearing Assessment Report will be published for public comment before any clearing occurs.
Will I be affected by land acquisition?
Main Roads WA is finalising the acquisition of a small portion of land at 50 Seaborne Street, Parkerville. Affected landowners will be contacted directly and have the opportunity to discuss the project with Main Roads representatives. Native vegetation clearing has been reduced to the extent practicable, with all cleared areas being utilised for road safety improvement works and associated activities
How long will construction take?
Construction timing will be confirmed closer to the commencement date. Service relocations will need to be completed before main construction works begin.
Will there be traffic disruptions?
Traffic management arrangements will be communicated to the community before construction commences. The Shire and Main Roads will work together to minimise disruptions.
