Why is a barrier being proposed?
The Shire's arborist has assessed the memorial trees and confirmed they are in good health. A barrier is being considered to help protect the trees' structural root zones from vehicle-related impacts, such as soil compaction, which can affect long-term tree health.
Has a barrier treatment already been selected?
No. The purpose of this project is to work with the community to identify a preferred barrier treatment that balances tree protection, heritage values and community needs.
Will I still be able to park along Memorial Avenue?
Parking arrangements will be considered as part of the project. The aim is to protect the memorial trees while maintaining appropriate access and functionality for the area. Barrier options will be developed with these considerations in mind.
Will this affect access to my property or business?
The project is not intended to restrict access to properties or businesses along Memorial Avenue. Maintaining appropriate access is an important consideration in the development and assessment of barrier options.
Will the project affect ANZAC Day services and commemorative events?
Maintaining Memorial Avenue as an important location for commemorative activities is a key objective of the project. Barrier options will be designed with the ongoing use of the area for ceremonies and community events in mind.
Why are protective measures needed if the trees are healthy?
While the trees are currently in good health, protecting their structural root zones can help reduce future impacts from soil compaction and support their long-term health and stability.
What barrier options are being considered and how will these be selected?
A range of barrier treatments will be considered as part of the project. Options will be shared with the community during the engagement process, with feedback helping to inform the preferred approach. Community feedback will be considered alongside technical requirements, arboricultural advice, heritage considerations, cost, maintenance requirements and site constraints before a preferred option is determined.
How can I provide feedback?
Opportunities to provide feedback will be advertised through this page and other project communications. Community members, local businesses and interested stakeholders are encouraged to participate throughout the engagement process.
