The Parkerville community is one step closer to enjoying enhanced sporting opportunities, with a significant milestone recently reached in the staged upgrade of floodlighting infrastructure at Parkerville Oval.
The Shire has completed major enabling works at the facility, including new light poles, cabling and electrical infrastructure designed to support future lighting improvements. As part of this stage, lighting levels have increased to 75 lux, providing a safe environment for Auskick and junior football activities at the oval.
Shire President Paige McNeil said the improvements reflect a long-standing aspiration of the local community and sporting clubs.
“We are so proud to deliver these new lights, ensuring our junior players can train throughout the football season. Thank you to the Parkerville Junior Football Club for your advocacy and support in bringing this project to life and creating more opportunities for young families to connect through sport.”
The project forms part of a broader plan to increase the oval's capacity and support greater use of the facility into the future. Eighteen months ago, the site's power supply was at capacity, resulting in occasional power issues affecting both the oval and pavilion. The infrastructure works completed by the Shire have addressed these limitations and laid the foundation for the next stage of improvements.
While this milestone delivers immediate benefits for junior sport, the overall project is not yet complete. Further works, including a Western Power upgrade, are expected to be completed later this year and will allow the facility to support higher levels of football and cricket competition.
President McNeil said the milestone was an important step towards achieving the community's longer-term vision for the facility.
“This 100% Shire-funded upgrade is a great example of your rates at work, creating better facilities and more opportunities for our community to connect through sport and recreation. Once Stage 2 is complete, Parkerville Oval will be an even greater asset for local families, sporting clubs and community groups.”
Once the next stage is complete, Parkerville Oval will be better equipped to accommodate more training, matches and participants, helping local sporting clubs continue to grow and thrive.
