Public Notice: Proposed Activities on Thoroughfares and Trading in Thoroughfares and Public Places Amendment Local Law 2026

The Shire of Mundaring proposes to make the Activities on Thoroughfares and Trading in Thoroughfares and Public Places Amendment Local Law 2026 under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1995.

The purpose of the proposed local law is to amend the existing Activities on Thoroughfares and Trading in Thoroughfares and Public Places Local Law to provide for the regulation of signs on thoroughfares and in public places and to make associated amendments.

The effect of the proposed local law is to:

  • introduce a requirement to obtain a permit before erecting a sign in, on or above a thoroughfare or public place, subject to specified exemptions;
  • provide exemptions for certain signs, including signs erected under written laws, local government signs, compliant election signs, temporary community service signs and approved direction signs;
  • establish restrictions and conditions relating to the placement, design, maintenance and safety of signs;
  • regulate election signs and temporary community service signs;
  • provide powers for the Shire to require non-compliant signs to be removed or made compliant and to recover associated costs; and
  • prescribe modified penalties for breaches of the local law.

A copy of the proposed Local Government Property Amendment Local Law 2026 may be inspected at the Shire Administration Centre, 7000 Great Eastern Highway, Mundaring; at any public library within the Shire of Mundaring during normal opening hours and is available on the Shire's website at: www.mundaring.wa.gov.au.

Submissions on the proposed local law may be made to the Chief Executive Officer and must be received by 5pm on 9 October 2026.
