WA Tree Festival is the perfect time to recognise the vital role trees play in creating greener, healthier and cooler communities. The month‑long program celebrates the value of trees and encourages practical action to grow and protect our urban tree canopy.
Shire of Mundaring is proud to support the 2026 WA Tree Festival, running from 11 April to 10 May. The festival is sponsored by the Government of Western Australia, with support from the WA Local Government Association (WALGA) and Perth NRM.
Throughout the festival, the community is encouraged to learn more about trees, biodiversity, and local wildlife and how small actions can make a real difference. The ‘Right Tree, Right Place’ workshop on May 9 is a great way to get involved. This session will help residents choose and care for trees that support wildlife, boost shade, and strengthen canopy cover.
Across the Perth metropolitan area trees continue to be lost to land development, vandalism, and threats such as the Polyphagous Shot-Hole Borer (PSHB). In response, several programs are now available to support replanting and greening efforts.
Residents who have had trees removed under Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development authorisation due to PSHB may be eligible for support through the WA Tree Recovery Program. The State Government’s Treebate Program also offers 10,000 rebates each year to encourage planting of eligible native trees.
