Local Mundaring business Wasteless Pantry has been celebrated for its outstanding commitment to sustainability, receiving a ‘Switched On Business Award’ as part of the Switch Your Thinking program in July. Known for helping the community reduce waste and embrace low impact living, this local business is proving that small changes can make a big difference.
Mundaring Shire President Paige McNeil joined City of Armadale Mayor Ruth Butterfield to present the award to business co-owner Amanda Welschbilling at a small ceremony at the Wasteless Pantry store.
The ‘Switched On Business Awards’ celebrates the sustainability achievements of local businesses across participating Councils who are leading the way in reducing emissions, waste and water use.
Wasteless Pantry, which opened in Mundaring in 2015, and now has a second store in Bassendean, has grown into a community leader in low waste living.
The award acknowledged the business’s efforts to embed circular economy principals across its operations and within the community with its refill retail model, waste diversion strategies, education efforts and support for food rescue.
Shire President Paige McNeil said the award highlighted both the innovation of the business and the environmental values of the local community.
“Over the past ten years, Wasteless Pantry has become a remarkable local success story providing our community with the opportunity to shop package-free and make environmentally conscious choices,” she said.
“Together, we’ve refilled more than 600,000 containers and diverted hard-to-recycle items from landfill - a powerful reminder of what’s possible when sustainability becomes part of our everyday lives.”
“Congratulations and thanks to Amanda, Jeannie, and the team for their unwavering commitment to the circular economy and waste education. We’re incredibly proud to have this inspiring business in Mundaring, making sustainability both impactful and accessible for all.”
