We are currently in the UNRESTRICTED BURNING period

Shire of Mundaring will be entering the unrestricted burning period tomorrow, Wednesday 1 June.
Residents may now burn without a permit or time restrictions however please consider the following before lighting up:
  • Don’t burn wet or green leaves/branches
  • Notify your neighbours prior to lighting
  • Manage smoke if it is blowing over roads/or into houses
  • Ensure an appropriate mineral earth break is in place where you are burning
  • Have adequate means of extinguishing the fire
  • If you lose or are unable to control your burn, call 000

About Permits to Burn 

Online Permits 

The online permit application has now changed from a form to a browser application, with out the need to save or print off forms. The new online permits will allow for some permits to be automatically approved such as;

  • Up to 16 piles of garden refuse at one time (each pile not exceeding 1x1sqm) 
  • Fire Pit (if lighting before 6pm)  

Permits for the following types of fires will be sent to your local brigade by email for them to approve. 

  • Running fire
  • Bonfires
  • Windrows
  • Logs/Stumps

Once approved you will receive your permit by email with any additional conditions added by the brigade in the process. (note if your permit requires brigade approval this may not carried out until the following Saturday morning when volunteers are on station. All though brigades may have the capacity to approve permits during the week with this online system)

      In Person

      • You may still attend your local bushfire brigade in person on a Saturday morning if you are unable to access the online permit application.

      Additional Information 

      • The permit is only approved once you receive an email confirmation with a Permit number.
      • Permits automatically approved will allow for burning to take place each day from 9am until midnight.
      • Permits will only be valid for 7 days (the 7 days will commence from the time the permit is approved and been emailed to the applicant)
      • A Fire Control Officer may contact you if further information is required
      • Your local brigade will also be notified of your permit for their operational awareness
      • Fire Control Officers may if required visit your property to ensure conditions of the permit are being met
      • There are standard conditions on your permit that must be adhered to. If any special conditions are required, these will be included with the standard conditions.
      • You will need to be able to provide proof of your permit in paper/electronic form if requested by a Fire Control Officer.
      • Permits to Burn record the basic information about the burn such as the applicant’s name and address, the location and nature of the burn.
      • Online permit holders will be sent a reminder of their permit expiring one day before the date of expiration
