Why This Project Matters
Boya Oval and Burkinshaw Oval are important community facilities that support a wide range of sports and activities.
The existing change rooms no longer meet the needs of current users. Participation across local clubs continues to grow, and facilities need to support a broader and more diverse community.
The project aims to deliver modern and inclusive facilities designed to support all genders and abilities. These facilities will support clubs, players and volunteers, and ensure both locations can continue to host a range of programs and competitions.
What’s Planned
The project involves upgrades to change room facilities at Boya Oval and Burkinshaw Oval in Glen Forrest.
The upgrades will include:
- Modern changerooms designed for all genders and abilities
- Improved amenities to support players, officials and volunteers
- Updated layouts to support multiple user groups
- Infrastructure to meet current and future community needs
Planning and design work is continuing to ensure the upgraded facilities support the ongoing needs of sporting clubs, community groups and the broader community across both sites.

Community Engagement
The Shire is working closely with sporting clubs, neighbouring residents, community stakeholders and the broader community to help inform the planning and design of the changeroom upgrades at Boya Oval and Burkinshaw Oval.
Workshops, information sessions and stakeholder meetings have been undertaken with sporting clubs, community members and other interested stakeholders to better understand current and future needs, gather feedback and help inform the ongoing design process. Project updates and information letters have also been distributed to neighbouring residents to keep the local community informed as planning progresses.
Feedback received throughout the project will continue to inform planning, design refinement and future project stages.
Community members who would like to receive project updates and key milestone information are encouraged to register their interest by emailing projecthub@mundaring.wa.gov.au.

Frequently Asked Questions
When will works begin?
Construction timing will be confirmed following completion of planning and design activities. Subject to project approvals, a tender for construction is anticipated to be released towards the end of 2026.
What impact will this have on access?
There may be temporary disruptions during construction. Updates will be provided ahead of any impacts with affected users.
Who will be able to use the facility?
The facilities are being designed to support a variety of users and activities, both now and into the future. In addition to supporting local sporting clubs, the upgraded changerooms will provide flexible and inclusive spaces that can be utilised by a broad range of community groups and reserve users.
Will the changerooms be inclusive?
Yes. The upgraded facilities are designed to cater for all genders and abilities.
How is the location of the new Boya changeroom being determined?
A range of potential locations and layout options are being considered as part of the planning and design process. Factors being assessed include accessibility, reserve functionality, environmental considerations, servicing requirements, emergency access, neighbouring properties and community feedback.
Have the designs changed in response to community feedback?
Community and stakeholder feedback has helped inform the ongoing design process and will continue to be considered as planning progresses.
Will the new Boya facility increase traffic, parking demand or noise?
No increase is expected. The project replaces the existing changerooms and is not intended to expand activities at Boya Oval. Traffic, parking use and noise levels are expected to remain consistent with current sporting and community activities. Traffic, parking and road safety considerations have formed part of project planning. Issues raised by residents have included parking behaviour, pedestrian activity, school events, vehicle movements, the Glenwood Avenue S-bend and the potential redistribution of activity associated with the new facility location. These matters have been considered as part of the project's parking and access review.
How will noise be managed?
The new facilities will include modern acoustic treatments designed to better contain noise generated inside the buildings. This is an improvement on the existing facilities and may reduce the impact of noise on nearby residents. It is also anticipated that some activities currently occurring outdoors will move into enclosed indoor spaces.
How will antisocial behaviour be addressed?
All users will be expected to comply with approved use conditions and community standards. Residents can report concerns to the Shire, which will investigate and work with user groups where required. The facilities will also have the capability for CCTV coverage to assist with investigations of vandalism, unauthorised use and antisocial behaviour.
Will emergency access during bushfires be affected?
No. Boya Oval will continue to be available for emergency services as a staging and parking area during bushfire incidents. Community have highlighted the role that parts of Boya Oval play during emergency events, particularly bushfire response operations. Emergency access requirements, including vehicle access, manoeuvring and operational requirements, have been considered and continue to be reviewed as detailed design progresses.
