Shire of Mundaring is thanking Councillor Doug Jeans for his long and dedicated service as he retires from Council in October 2025.
Elected from a field of eight candidates in 2015, Cr Jeans has proudly represented Central Ward for 10 years. During this time, he has contributed across many committees including the Audit and Risk Committee, Bush Fire Advisory Committee, Environmental Advisory Group, CEOPRC, Perth Airport Municipal Group and the Australia Day Citizenship Awards Committee.
Cr Jeans also served on the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) for eight years, including as Deputy Chair from 2019 to 2021. One of his key portfolio interests has been waste management, where he played a pivotal role in establishing a Containers for Change depot at Mundaring Community Resource Centre.
He was also instrumental in Council’s original opposition to Structure Plan 34 North Stoneville, moving the motion that recommended refusal of the proposal to the Western Australian Planning Commission. In recognition of his service, he received a Merit Award from the Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA) in 2022.
Shire President Paige McNeil said Cr Jeans’ contribution to the Shire and the wider community had been significant.
“Cr Jeans has always put our community first. He brought great passion to his work on Council and committees, and his advocacy has delivered real outcomes,” President McNeil said.
“From sustainability and waste management to community celebrations and planning decisions, Doug has left a lasting impact. We thank him wholeheartedly and wish him every happiness for the future.
We also extend our gratitude to Doug’s wife Carla, who has been a steadfast source of support during his decade of service.”
Council and community members will have the opportunity to acknowledge Cr Jeans’ contribution at the upcoming Council meeting.
