Why This Project Matters
Boya Oval and Burkinshaw Oval are important community facilities that support a wide range of sports and activities.
The existing change rooms no longer meet the needs of current users. Participation across local clubs continues to grow, and facilities need to support a broader and more diverse community.
These upgrades will provide modern facilities designed for all genders and abilities. They will support clubs, players and volunteers, and ensure both locations can continue to host a range of programs and competitions.
The project also reflects investment in local infrastructure through Shire funding and a State Government election commitment.
What’s Planned
The project involves upgrades to change room facilities at Boya Oval and Burkinshaw Oval in Glen Forrest.
The upgrades will include:
- Modern changerooms designed for all genders and abilities
- Improved amenities to support players, officials and volunteers
- Updated layouts to support multiple user groups

Community Engagement
The project is being shaped through direct engagement with local clubs and key user groups.
Design workshops and stakeholder meetings are being held at both Boya and Glen Forrest to gather feedback on how the facilities are used and what improvements are needed.
This input will inform the final design to ensure it meets the needs of the community.

Frequently Asked Questions
When will works begin?
Construction timing will be confirmed following completion of design and planning, tender will be released towards the end of August 2026.
What impact will this have on access?
There may be temporary disruptions during construction. Updates will be provided ahead of any impacts with affected users.
Who will be able to use the facility?
Both sites are used by a range of local sporting clubs and community groups across football, cricket, tennis and other activities.
Will the changerooms be inclusive?
Yes. The upgraded facilities are designed to cater for all genders and abilities.
Why is the new Boya changeroom being built in this location?
The Shire investigated several options, including redeveloping the existing changeroom site. However, there was not enough space to build a modern facility that meets current building, accessibility and community use requirements. The proposed location provides the space needed for a contemporary facility.
Has the design for Boya changed in response to community feedback?
Yes. The building has been repositioned and rotated from earlier concepts to increase the distance from nearby homes, improve its relationship to the oval and reduce visual impacts on neighbouring properties.
Will the new Boya facility increase traffic, parking demand or noise?
No increase is expected. The project replaces the existing changerooms and is not intended to expand activities at Boya Oval. Traffic, parking use and noise levels are expected to remain consistent with current sporting and community activities.
How will noise be managed?
The new facilities will include modern acoustic treatments designed to better contain noise generated inside the buildings. This is an improvement on the existing facilities and may reduce the impact of noise on nearby residents. It is also anticipated that some activities currently occurring outdoors will move into enclosed indoor spaces.
How will antisocial behaviour be addressed?
All users will be expected to comply with approved use conditions and community standards. Residents can report concerns to the Shire, which will investigate and work with user groups where required. The facilities will also have the capability for CCTV coverage to assist with investigations of vandalism, unauthorised use and antisocial behaviour.
Will emergency access during bushfires be affected?
No. Boya Oval will continue to be available for emergency services as a staging and parking area during bushfire incidents.
