In its Friday 15 September edition, the Echo misreported that Shire of Mundaring has “changed a major part of its Australia Day celebrations by cancelling the annual Australia Day Citizenship Awards and committee which chooses the recipients.” Stating that the Shire had “scrapped” the awards. This information was incorrect.
Council resolved unanimously on Tuesday 12 September to not support an officer recommendation to rename the Australia Day Citizenship Awards Committee to the Australia Day Volunteer Awards Committee and adopt a new Committee Terms of Reference to reflect this change.
This means the current Australia Day Citizenship Awards Committee remains in existence as is, although it was noted it’s Terms of Reference required updating.
