As a RoadWise Council, Shire of Mundaring is continuing its commitment to creating a safe environment for all road users and wildlife by temporarily installing courtesy display signs at three locations across the shire this month.

Two temporary Speed Display Signs have been installed on Cook Street in Mount Helena. One will be installed just west of Chidlow Street and one just east of Samuel Street, for approximately two weeks.

The signs are a prompt to remind motorists of the existing Build Up Area speed limit of 50km/h where families are often out walking, or where wildlife inhabit.

Shire President Paige McNeil said the temporary signs were on loan from WALGA’S RoadWise and were vital in making the road safer for all road users, and protecting wildlife and the environment.

“We are fortunate to live in the beautiful Perth Hills which is home to a diverse array of fauna,” she said.

“I encourage motorists to slow down and maintain the speed limit, to keep our community safe and to avoid an accident when approaching wildlife crossing the road.”

The deployment of the courtesy speed display signs also supports the Shire’s other safe speed activities including the roll out of “Consider Our Kids – Please Slow Down” adhesive stickers for local residents to place on the side of their rubbish bins.

By detecting the speed of approaching vehicles, and displaying the speed and/or message as feedback to the driver if they need to change their driving behaviour.

Following the two week placement on Cook Street, the Shire will move the temporary signs to Byfield Road in Parkerville and Richardson Road, Stoneville.
