The creativity of children across the Shire of Mundaring is once again celebrated as 16 large-scale banners, created by local students, now enliven the town centre with environmental messages.
The banners depict the winning artworks created as part of the annual Environmental Art Project. In 2023, 1175 students from 20 schools from across Shire of Mundaring, City of Swan, City of Stirling and Shire of Northam participated.
The project run by Mundaring Arts Centre Inc, Shire of Mundaring and City of Swan encourage primary school children to investigate environmental themes and create artworks based on their learnings. This year’s theme ‘Helping Hands’ celebrates the importance of volunteers in our community, who tirelessly contribute to the protection and care of the local environment.
The winning artworks by Logan Scott, Abel Beaman, Maryam Aronson, Leyna Veitch, Jack Marriott, Max Meitek Rawlinson, Emma Hart, Faith Lemmey, Delilah Tsang, Xavier Da Silva, Reece Storrack, Matilda Marr, Zeyke Scott, Ryan Fertch, Charlotte Crane, Indi Arnott, Rachel Noble, Victoria Alabisi King, Anarosa Shield, Meer Patel, Riley Rueb and Hannah Clausnitzer, are showcased alongside all of the entries at Midland Junction Arts Centre until 16 December.
In addition to the 16 banner winners, eight winners’ artwork was selected to be transformed into thank you cards, and 14 highly commended entries were selected to receive book prizes. All artworks are displayed on the Mundaring Arts Centre website as a virtual exhibition.
Awards were presented to the winning and highly commended students by Shire of Mundaring Deputy President Cr Trish Cook at a ceremony in the Mundaring
Rose Gardens on the corner of Nichol Street and Great Eastern Highway on 6 December to mark the launch of the banners and the 22nd year of the project.
