The $1.9M conversion to more efficient LED streetlights across the Shire of Mundaring is set to begin next week.

Western Power will commence the first stage of the changeover from Wednesday 13 December in Wooroloo.

Shire President Paige McNeil said the conversion of streetlights to LED across the shire was a project that Council committed to in 2022.

“The Shire of Mundaring is proud of its strong commitment to reducing energy costs and addressing climate challenges,” she said.

“Once completed, the more efficient lights will result in estimated savings of $350,000 per year in electricity costs.

“Importantly, it will also make a significant difference in achieving our targets for lower greenhouse gas emissions.”

Following the first stage of the changeover, works are scheduled to commence on Great Eastern Highway in January and Sawyers Valley and Mt Helena in March.

The conversion to LED has been partly funded by a $1.4M grant from stage three of the Local Road and Community Infrastructure Program Fund and $0.5M from Shire Reserves.

Traffic management will be in place while Western Power and its contractors install new LED fittings on existing streetlights. Please drive carefully around the works.

Lighting faults can be reported to Western Power online, but for any power pole or streetlight hazards call 13 13 51.
