Cyclists, walkers and scooter enthusiasts can now enjoy a new three metre wide, 2.06km shared path along Rosedale Road in Chidlow.

A ceremony was held at Lake Leschenaultia to officially announce the completion of the $1.085 million path on Friday 2 June.

Invited guests included the Member for Swan Hills Jessica Shaw MLA representing the Hon Rita Saffioti, Minister for Transport. Other guests included Chidlow Progress Association Treasurer Erik Postmas, Principal Amanda McCormack and Deputy Principal Claire Mansveld from Chidlow Primary School, Jarrod Daniel of AXIIS Contracting and Shire of Mundaring Councillors and Staff.

Shire President James Martin said the completion of the path would hopefully boost tourism in the area and give residents more flexibility and choice for places to ride in the shire.

“The Shire is proud of the completed shared path,” he said.

“The path replaced the former asphalt and gravel path and now links the Heritage Trail in Chidlow Village Green to recreational facilities at Lake Leschenaultia.

“This is one of three assets that are currently being upgraded at the lake, giving both regional and local visitors more options to come and enjoy our jewel in the crown.”

The project was fully funded through a Western Australian Bicycle Network grant from the State Government as part of the McGowan Government’s election commitment to develop and grow bike riding in the region.

In the coming months, further works will be carried out to complete the shared path including installation of a shade structure and table, bench seats, drainage improvement and creative road crossings artwork.
