Families in Helena Valley and surrounds can now enjoy new and improved facilities at Broz Park following the unveiling of a new all-abilities playground on Friday 9 February.
The playground now boasts a shady, safe environment for young people to play, with plenty of thrills from the addition of a flying fox, pendulum all abilities swing, new fitness hub, additional seating and bicycle racks. The junior playground has also been fenced to improve safety.
Shire of Mundaring Councillors and staff were joined by Michelle Roberts MLA, Member for Midland; Stephen Price MLA, Member for Forrestfield; Nikki Miller, Manager Grants Development at Lotterywest and Sue McCann and Deanna Clark from the Helena Valley Ratepayers Association for the opening.
Deputy Shire President Trish Cook said the project to improve facilities in the park aligns with Council’s plan for a healthy, safe community where everyone belongs.
“We wanted to make sure this beloved family park remains an enjoyable and natural space for everyone to enjoy, now and into the future,” she said.
“It is exciting for us to have an outdoor space that community members of all ages and all abilities can enjoy.”
Members from Helena Valley Ratepayers Association were thanked for their proactive work in developing the Broz Park project masterplan and for their lobbying efforts to secure funding.
The playground upgrades compliment other projects at Broz Park including the 2022 wetland restoration project and the provision of new amenities including a bird refuge island, toilet facilities, and additional seating.
The playground upgrades were made possible through a grant from Lotterywest and Shire funding.
